I grew up on the east coast (hence my slight accent) in New Brunswick. I did an undergraduate in pharmacy then completed medicine and residency at Dalhousie in Halifax (that was a great time!). While in residency, I met a very tall, handsome man who is now my wonderful husband Chris, who is a helicopter pilot in the military (such a babe in his flight suit). We have 2 awesome kiddos, Sam who is now 7, and Ivy who is now 4 and a very cute, neurotic border collie named Annie. We love outdoor fun like hiking, camping, skiing, biking and sailing. We plan to sail off into the sunset in 2029 on a family sabbatical for 2 years, or until we run out of money.Â

Justine Stremick, MD is an emergency medicine physician living and practicing on Vancouver Island. Before settling in the Cowichan Valley, she spent 11 years as a U.S. Army doctor and competed as a Division I athlete—experiences that shape her collaborative, high-energy approach to patient care and leadership. She’s also an active board member and immediate past president of the ACEP Government Services Chapter.
When she’s off the clock, you’ll usually find Justine running, out on her bike, exploring the island, spending time with family, or trying to keep up with her friendly dog.

I grew up near Kansas City, MO, did undergrad/med school at the University of Missouri, and residency at Indiana University (graduated 2015). I've been working in suburban/rural EDs around Indianapolis for the last 11 years, mostly as a nocturnist. Outside of work, I am an avid reader, music junkie, foodie and am looking forward to exploring all the outdoors activities Vancouver Island has to offer.My wife Stephanie is an artist (printmaking/ceramics) and we have a 7-year-old son, Huxley. We are aiming to move out by early September so he can start Grade 2 on time.

I'm from North Carolina and took a non-traditional path towards medicine via exploring a career as a museum curator. I spent eight years in Missouri for premed and med school, then went back to the southeast for my training in Virginia where I did a subtrack in Toxicology. I graduated in 2016, working in SF Bay area (which introduced me a little to the beauty of the PNW!). I then met Danny on a girls trip in New Orleans, moved there, convinced him to move back to North Carolina with our two dogs and have two children (a 2 yo and a soon to be 4 yo). We're thrilled to be joining you guys and are really looking forward to exploring the area. I serendipitously have a friend from residency at Cowichan, where we'll also be doing a few shifts, and another friend from California who will be starting at Jubilee/VGH next month. And man, EM is a small world - also went to med school with our future colleague, Adam Thomas! And I like playing with art supplies, too, and just sold my first painting.t you

I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah before going to college in New Orleans and medical school in Chicago. I met Libby in New Orleans later and we ended up in North Carolina, where we were until a few days ago! We have a 4 and 2 year old boy and two dogs. We love the outdoors and I love soccer. I am learning guitar very slowly. I also love reading but never have the time! Our time so far in Canada has been short, but meaningful enough that we knew it was the right step for us. We are excited to meet everyone else and settle into our new home.

I grew up in the Marshall Islands then went to university in San Diego, California. I took 5 years off after university. During that time, I was a health educator in Cote d'Ivoire for 2 years in the Peace Corps, spent a year traveling around the U.S. and Canada climbing, then did a couple years of cancer research before starting medical school in Hawaii. My emergency medicine residency was in New Mexico, and right after residency I went to New Zealand for 6 months to do locums. I came back to the U.S. and have lived mostly in Colorado since 2010, with a 1-year stint in the Marshall Islands as an island doctor. I have done mostly rural emergency medicine. Over the last several years, I have also been doing post-acute geriatric care here in Fort Collins and LOVE geriatrics.My husband Matt is a wildlife biologist, and currently does bison work with Colorado State University. He plans to continue to work remotely, with trips back and forth when animal work needs to be done.Our girls Thea and Everly are 9 and 13. Thea loves theater and jiu jitsu. Everly plays cello, and bass guitar, and is a swimmer. We are so, so excited for this move! I will be moving in Oct/November, and Matt and the girls will move in January.

I grew up in Northwestern Ontario before heading to McMaster University for medical school. I completed my family medicine residency at Queen’s University, followed by an Emergency Medicine fellowship at the University of Saskatchewan. After training, I moved to Ottawa, where I worked in a community emergency department. It was also during my time in Ottawa that I met my wife, Saskia. We quickly discovered a shared love of spending time in the mountains, and eventually decided that we wanted to build our lives closer to them — and closer to Saskia’s family — on the West Coast. We now live on Vancouver Island with our two young daughters, who keep us busy and constantly looking for our next mini-adventure. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find us hiking, climbing, skiing, or simply getting outside and enjoying everything the West Coast has to offer.
